RICHARD MTEKI

Richard is one of our elder experienced artists. He was born in 1947 in Harare.

Richard comes from a family of sculptors, with his late brother also being a sculptor, and his daughters and sons following in his footsteps.

Richards’s inspiration and teacher was his late brother who took him under his wing at the age of seventeen.

Richard’s favourite subjects are human heads, figures and animals, with a special interest in Storks, Owls and Rhinos. Richard gets his inspiration from his surroundings and likes to try and reflect his inspirations in his works.

Richard prefers to sculptor in Black Serpentine which is mined in Guruve, outside of Harare.

Richard has exhibited in London, Germany, America and Asia. His work is shown in many of the galleries in Zimbabwe.

Richard, like Samuel Masakwa, is spending a lot of his time encouraging and promoting young sculptors.
